Zac Brown And The Letters For Lyrics Campaign

clock Aug 26, 2010 9:29 PM by author Brad

If you don’t know who Zac Brown is then you had better take a listen to some of his music.

Help the Ram Truck Brand and Zac Brown Band reach their goal of sending 1 million letters to U.S. soldiers with just a few "clicks" as the "Letters for Lyrics" campaign takes to the Web. More than 325,000 letters have been collected to date and many more are needed to reach their goal.

In exchange for writing a letter to a U.S. soldier, participants will receive a special compilation CD titled "Breaking Southern Ground." This exclusive CD features three all-new songs from Zac Brown Band, as well as music from artists signed to Zac Brown's label, Southern Ground Artists – Sonia Leigh, Nic Cowan and Levi Lowrey. The new online campaign gives participants the choice of either donating their complimentary CD to a U.S. soldier or receiving their CD by printing out their letter and bringing it in to a Ram Truck dealer.

Obama Mania Slipping - 2012 Candidates VS Obama

clock Jul 15, 2010 8:16 PM by author Brad

A Fox News poll released Thursday finds that only 43 percent of voters approve of the job Obama's doing. Two weeks ago 47 percent approved, and one year ago 54 percent of voters approved. His highest approval thus far was 65 percent in January 2009.

Public Policy Polling, which normally leans towards the Democrats pitted Barack Obama against five potential Republican challengers for the 2012 presidential campaign, and the only one Obama beat was … Jan Brewer.

With his approval numbers hitting new lows it’s no surprise that Barack Obama’s numbers in our monthly look ahead to the 2012 Presidential race are their worst ever this month. He trails Mitt Romney 46-43, Mike Huckabee 47-45, Newt Gingrich 46-45, and is even tied with Sarah Palin at 46. The only person tested he leads is Jan Brewer, who doesn’t have particularly high name recognition on the national level at this point. It’s not that any of the Republican candidates are particularly well liked. Only Huckabee has positive favorability numbers at 37/28. Romney’s at 32/33, Gingrich at 32/42, Palin at 37/52, and Brewer at 17/20. But with a majority of Americans now disapproving of Obama it’s no surprise that a large chunk of them would replace him as President if they had that choice today. There are two things driving these strong poll numbers for the Republican candidates. The first is a lead with independents in every match up. Romney leads 48-35 with them, Gingrich is up 50-39, Huckabee has a 46-40 advantage, Palin’s up 47-42, and even Brewer has a 38-37 edge.

Arizona Gets Tough on Immigration

clock Apr 26, 2010 10:07 PM by author Brad

Last Friday April 23rd, 2010, Arizona's Republican Gov. Jan Brewer signed a controversial immigration bill into law. The bill, SB 1070, has come in response to a spike in violence along the state's border with Mexico. It will make it a state crime not to carry proof of legal immigration status and will require Arizona's state and local police to ask about a person's immigration status if there is "Reasonable Suspicion" that he or she is in the country illegally. Doesn't this actually just give more "TEETH" to the current Federal laws that are supposed to be enforced every day? Mr. Obama is off giving everyone free health care, trying to smash capitalism, wanting to prosecute past administrations, and looking for new ways to take our money (TAXES). When he should be doing one very basic and most important part of the Federal Government... Protecting our borders and the American citizens here LEGALLY!!

Mr. Obama said during a naturalization ceremony for members of the United States Armed Services that such legislation could:

"threaten to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans"

Obama said his administration will be keeping a close eye on Arizona to monitor whether it violates the civil rights of people there. WHAT! Is he for real? Shouldn't he be saying "I will be keeping a close eye on the border"? After everything controversial that this president has said and done, this should reside at the top of everyone's list. Arizona is trying to protect it's people, wake up Mr. Obama. This is the one area where the Federal Government should step in. This is a major national security issue and Mr. Obama is asleep at the wheel. There are people crossing our borders and killing American people. There are hard working LEGAL AMERICANS near our borders that fear for their lives every day. How about we take Mr. Obama, Al Sharpton, George Lopez and Ricky Martin down to the border with no security and one flashlight, then we'll see who is preaching civil rights.

You Liberals can call me whatever you want, but the previously mentioned people have all been spewing crap about how this is Racial profiling and how it violates civil rights. You need to wake up, Americans are being murdered and taken hostage for ransom and being intimidated for drug trafficking routes. This can NOT be allowed to take place within our borders.

I'm absolutely for LEGAL IMMIGRATION and I have worked with many of them throughout the years. From Russia, Mexico, India and Pakistan and they were all very, very good people and good workers and I can guarantee you that they would NOT be crying "Racial Profiling" right now. The only people crying "Racial Profiling" right now are looking for the spotlight and looking to take advantage of a bad situation.

As far as I am concerned, every American should be on the side of Arizona.

Cedar Rapids Tea Party Recap

clock Apr 15, 2010 9:00 PM by author Brad

I attended the local Tea Party Rally here in Cedar Rapids, IA, during lunch hour.  It was held downtown in Green Square Park directly across from the Cedar Rapids Gazette building.  Surprisingly they did actually have an article on the website within about two hours, but the information they provided was horrible at best.  We'll see what the actual paper has for an article in the morning.  But for now I will do my best to sum up the event here.

The event started at 11:30 am, I arrived at about 11:25 am and most of the 200 ralliers were already present.  The event organizer had a small portable P/A system and started to address the crowd at exactly 11:30 am.  Three GOP Congressional candidates for our district looking to replace Democratic lap dog U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack gave brief but powerful speeches.

There was also a gentleman walking around handing out information on Rob Gettemy, but I don't think that Rob was there in person.

Mariannette left the rally after her speech,  but Christopher Reed and Steve Rathje stuck around for the entirety.

There were a few more speakers... I could not hear their names, but I think the best speeches were given by two young men that belong to a local young Republicans group.  The general message was less taxes, more freedom, and less government intervention in our personal lives.  The atmosphere was very friendly, there was no name calling or spitting or gun wielding, just concerned Americans that want their country back.  I didn't even see any opposition shouting at us from across the way.

The crowd was diverse and consisted of baby's in strollers, mom's, dad's, business men, business woman, veterans, and farmers.  There was also no shortage of placards and the one I remember he most is:  a little girl was holding a small sign that read... "I don't want a Big Brother!".

As I left there was an older couple in front of me and the woman said... "I didn't see any violence".  She had obviously been listening to the main stream media, because they have branded the Tea Party people as violent, racist, and crazy.  She has now seen that the Tea Partiers are very friendly and passionate about this country.  I was also impressed with this event and rejuvenated to continue my activism for this great country.

Sorry about the pictures, I only had my cell phone.

Cure For Political Overload...Baby Kittens

clock Mar 26, 2010 11:20 PM by author Brad

Well since it has been such a stressful week in politics for me I thought that I would change gears tonight and show you some pictures of our new baby kittens. We live in out in the country and have many, many pets. Last Friday one of our cats had kittens, and who doesn't love baby kittens. So at least for a few minutes take your mind off politics and check out the pictures below.

The magic of nature and God gives us such wonderful things.

Poll and Survey Widgets

clock Mar 25, 2010 12:26 PM by author Brad

If you've taken the time to visit the "Polls" page and take a poll you probably notice that you must first sign up to vote and also that there are a few bugs in it. I have been developing some new widgets for polls and also surveys. You wont need to sign up to participate and it will also be much more robust. The coolest thing is that you will be able to make your own polls and surveys with this interface and put them on your own blog or website. I should be done with it in the next few weeks...So stop back often to check it out.

I Cant See Through The Transparency

clock Mar 16, 2010 4:20 PM by author Brad

Govt. Transparency Down in ‘09

Even the NYTimes is reporting this story:

Report Faults U.S.’s Efforts at Transparency

“Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency”

- Barack Obama

What…The Obama administration not following through with its campaign promises.  Mr. Obama told us that his administration would have the greatest transparency we have seen in a lifetime, but it looks like he has done just the opposite.  AP examined the 2008 and 2009 budget year FOIA reports and has come up with some interesting figures.  Also, there is a new report by the National Security Archive at George Washington University which only confirms even more that Mr. Obama was saying one thing while doing another.  Mr. Obama be careful where you step because there is poo-poo everywhere.

Here is the page on Transparency directly from

http://www.whitehouse.gov.

I have copy and pasted it here just in case they decide to take it down or change the verbiage.

Memorandum for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies

SUBJECT:      Transparency and Open Government

My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government.  We will work together to ensure the public trust and establish a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration. Openness will strengthen our democracy and promote efficiency and effectiveness in Government.

Government should be transparent.  Transparency promotes accountability and provides information for citizens about what their Government is doing.  Information maintained by the Federal Government is a national asset. My Administration will take appropriate action, consistent with law and policy, to disclose information rapidly in forms that the public can readily find and use. Executive departments and agencies should harness new technologies to put information about their operations and decisions online and readily available to the public. Executive departments and agencies should also solicit public feedback to identify information of greatest use to the public.

Government should be participatory. Public engagement enhances the Government's effectiveness and improves the quality of its decisions. Knowledge is widely dispersed in society, and public officials benefit from having access to that dispersed knowledge. Executive departments and agencies should offer Americans increased opportunities to participate in policymaking and to provide their Government with the benefits of their collective expertise and information. Executive departments and agencies should also solicit public input on how we can increase and improve opportunities for public participation in Government.

Government should be collaborative.  Collaboration actively engages Americans in the work of their Government. Executive departments and agencies should use innovative tools, methods, and systems to cooperate among themselves, across all levels of Government, and with nonprofit organizations, businesses, and individuals in the private sector.  Executive departments and agencies should solicit public feedback to assess and improve their level of collaboration and to identify new opportunities for cooperation.

I direct the Chief Technology Officer, in coordination with the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and the Administrator of General Services, to coordinate the development by appropriate executive departments and agencies, within 120 days, of recommendations for an Open Government Directive, to be issued by the Director of OMB, that instructs executive departments and agencies to take specific actions implementing the principles set forth in this memorandum. The independent agencies should comply with the Open Government Directive.

This memorandum is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by a party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

This memorandum shall be published in the Federal Register.

Protectors of the Constitution, as the Constitution saw them.

clock Feb 27, 2010 10:04 PM by author Brad

Here is a Brilliant RedState.com diary entry from Vassar Brushmills

Protectors of the Constitution, as the Constitution saw them.

This is a literary work of art that should be on the coffee table of every house.  Here are some quotes I pulled from the article.

"The Constitution was written for the common man, the C-student, not the A-student. Period. Its entire existence is to enable and empower the C-Student, not the A-student. Period. The Founders always knew the A-student could manage on his own, even under the most authoritarian of situations."

"The Founders did not assume “conservatism” as we know it today. But it knew the “game” as we know it today. The Constitution assumed two (2) elites who would protect it in its reciprocal relationship with the Common Man and liberty. First were (are) the persons the people selected to represent them (a spiritual and cultural process Libertarians still don’t seem to understand or like, thus having joined with other elitists to undermine it)."

"The Constitution also assumed, long before Boss Tweed, that there would be opportunistic politicians who would strive to misguide these communities of struggling houses for personal gain, and it even presumed, before Karl Marx was born, that some would always look upon this democratic experiment with disdain and fear, if not for some purported social concern (the theft of labor), then from a baser level, i.e., the divine right of elites wishing to preserve the old social order that had always existed between the common man and their betters"

"After years of stuffing ballot boxes, organizing strikes and generally thumping the heads of anyone who got in their way, the Left did have a much better lay of the terrain where the common man lived and could negotiate the back alleys and side streets of his heart, mind and neighborhood much better than the GOP guardians."

"Amidst all this, that second group of Protectors, even now, still sees the cure through the political process. Just give us one more election cycle. If we can just clean up Congress, reduce the size of government, reduce taxes, cut spending, cut entitlements…then things will fix themselves."

"The Left’s guerrilla war machine is cunning and large, and committed….and we seem to have no soldiers in that theatre of combat at all."

If you consider yourself an American then this is a must read.  We should print about 10,000 copies and cover the yard at the White House.  RedState.com has some great content.
