Senate defeats bid to force general's testimony
Gen. Stanley McChrystal has asked for 40,000 troops in Afghanistan and Mr. Obama and Congress are giving him the run-around. Maybe they are sitting on this to use as leverage for their socialist Health Care bill. I realize that sending more troops is a very difficult decision because it puts more soldiers in harm's way. But doing nothing is just playing politics as usual. Get more troops in there! Mop everything up quickly! Then we can bring ALL the soldiers home much sooner!

I agree! Putting off sending more troops in will only make the situation worse when they do go in.

Bringing more troops into Afghanistan is more problematic because of logistics. Unlike Iraq, there is very little infrastructure in Afghanistan so bringing more troops in is going to take more time. There isn't highways, or roads let alone power grids and water supplies to tap into to sustain large groups of Soldiers without building it first.

I agree that getting more troops into Afghanistan is much more difficult than Iraq or probably just about anywhere in the world. I realize that there is little infrastructure and also that there are many different leaders and most of them are probably corrupt. My main concern was that of the existing troops not having enough help, and lives being lost because of this. Also, Mr. Obama took too long to make a decision. If Mr. Obama and the Democrats where actually worried about the logistics I would be amazed. I think they were more worried about how the decision was going to affect them.

Terrible!Should give 'em 400,000 troops, then we'd be home by Christmas! Draft Time, Baby!There is an end-around, though that McChrystal knows... Israel will finally attack Iran. Thank God there are Republicans like Pence and a few democrats like Liebermann who will insist America go to war in Iran and have Israel's back. That will take a lot of troops, and they can be used in both Iran and Afghanistan. Rahm Emanuel is horrible on a lot of issues, but he is a huge supporter of Israel (surprisingly like a lot of Democrats) and he will ensure Obama support Israel and use American troops to fight for that little, helpless Democracy.So I think Obama did promise 30K more troops for Afghanistan, and I have no doubt we'll get a lot more there soon. Pakistan, too. Just wait until 1012 - we'll have American troops in every country in the middle east and finally take care of those damn towelheaded terrorist bastards! Finally Peace for Israel and Peace for America. Just takes guts and blood to get us there.

While I don't share your complete undaunted enthusiasm for troops all over the middle east, I am glad that Mr. Obama did finally approve the extra troops in Afghanistan.
