President Barack Obama will reach out to a whole new audience with his first children's book which is to be released this fall. "Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters" will appear in bookstores November 16th.

In a statement, the publishers say the president's daughters, Sasha and Malia, inspired him to write the book, which is "a moving tribute to thirteen groundbreaking Americans and the ideals that have shaped our nation-from the artistry of Georgia O'Keefe, to the courage of Jackie Robinson, to the patriotism of George Washington." The book is published by Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers, a division of Random House.

The manuscript was written, and the book deal signed, before Obama's inauguration in January of 2009, according to Random House.

Very interesting... The President is writing and publishing children's books while seated in the White House. The White House and Random House can say what they want, but the bottom line is... Mr. Obama is the current leader of the free world and this is a conflict of interests. I have a hard time getting everything done in one day, with kids, pets, the lawn, the house, etc. So how in the hell can the President have time to publish books?

And here is some other interesting information that I've found while researching this:
"Of Thee I Sing" is a musical with a score by George and Ira Gershwin and a book by George S. Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind. The musical lampoons American politics. Thats intriguing...

The year was 1931. The United States was embroiled in its greatest economic crisis in history, the Great Depression. In the midst of this dark hour for the young democracy, there appeared upon the stage one of the liveliest, most delightful pieces of musical theater ever written. The play mocks the ineffective politicians with their empty campaign slogans, but even more so it points the finger at the American populace that is willing to accept them and even elect them to office. Thats even more intriguing...
